Preventive measures

Melanoma screening

Malignant melanoma is the form of cancer with the fastest growth in cases. The number is expected to double again by 2020. The reason is the regular sunshine holidays taken by Germans, during which the skin is exposed to far too much sun. Children under three in particular should be protected. With around 120,000 new cases a year, skin cancer, including non-melanoma skin cancer, is the most common cancer in Germany. About 23% of all cancers are skin cancers.

Benefits from the company's perspective

SwissCare offers skin cancer screening directly at your company. The benefits are obvious. Easy access means employees take up the examination more regularly and more often. Contrary to the assumption that this creates duplicate care, the results of our follow-up survey show that most participants would not otherwise have had the examination at all. The company therefore not only demonstrates social responsibility and improves employee satisfaction, but also reaches employees from specific target groups whose absences can be avoided through screening.

Our services

SwissCare's services consist of specialist screening with an epiluminescence microscope, which assesses other skin abnormalities as well as checking for skin cancer. Employees are given a written report. Where something unusual is found, it makes further treatment by a specialist in private practice easier. We also organise the whole programme for you. Our media department produces custom materials such as brochures and posters, and we handle appointment booking by telephone or electronically. Our organisation team draws on thousands of days of on-site experience and supports you throughout the planning.

Evaluation

When KME handles appointment booking, we provide you not only with an anonymous statistic, always available, documenting the number of examinations, the distribution by sex and age, and the abnormalities found. If the employee agrees when booking to being contacted afterwards, we survey them after the examination. This follow-up covers not only our standard questions (for example, further doctor visits, or examination at work in addition to routine screening) but, on request, also company-specific questions that we can build in. The follow-up serves more than statistical evaluation: the survey also reminds employees that they had meant to take action. We also carry out scientific studies regularly, so that we can improve our services further. Taking part in such a study is, of course, always voluntary for companies and employees alike, but it helps to improve care in the medium and long term. Through the surveys and studies, we are increasingly succeeding in making skin cancer screening a continuous process within companies, and employees are looked after over the long term in line with their individual risk profile.
